In the 2 meetings prior to the operation, Mr Hutchinson explained exactly what was going to happen and because he was a very warm and friendly person, he gave me great confidence in his ability and made me feel at ease regarding my surgery. Mr Hutchinson also made me feel comfortable enough to contact him anytime during my recovery, as he told me that this is all part of the service. The operation has been very successful and this shows what an excellent surgeon he is.

James Hutchinson has made my life worth living again.... I had suffered from extremely painful knee joints (BOTH) for the past 6 years before my first operation and was on a great number of pain killers. My life revolved around very strong doses of Tramadol tablets and limited me to only walking the dog when I had too. When you waiting to take the next fix of "Trams" is no way of living. Arthritis not only effects your life but the ones you live and work with. James warned me that I had to work hard after the operation and he was right. He Was totally professional and i can not praise him enough. Im now 58 and looking forward to 25 years of pain free joints. I would put my life in his hands again without question.

Mr Hutchinson has made my life a 100 percent better after he did my hip replacement. The care I received was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff.

On the 6th January 2020 Mr Hutchinson performed a very demanding reconstruction of my hip socket which had totally dislocated. Looking at the x-rays it showed the ball joint totally displaced to one side and the socket just a broken mess. Even Mr Hutchinson admitted that it was a challenging operation . Today I am walking without support, no pain and almost 100% back to normal and all this at 85. I cannot praise or thank Mr Hutchinson enough. For a long time before the operation I was not walking as I should, but put it down to old age. I now have a new lease of life. Thank You Mr Hutchinson.

Profile

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Royal Derby Hospital and Derby Nuffield Hospital. I have been in my current post since 2002.
I specialise in primary hip and knee replacement, revision hip replacement and the management of periprosthetic fractures.
My medical school training was at The Queens College , University of Oxford and Addenbrookes Hospital, University of Cambridge. I carried out additional training in complex hip and knee surgery during a 12 month Fellowship in Perth, Western Australia.
I submit all my cases to the National Joint Registry and the outcomes of my last 3000 joint replacement cases put me in the top 5% of UK surgeons in terms of revision rate.
Hip and knee replacement is a real passion of mine- I firmly believe you only live once and that well performed hip and knee replacement prolongs good function and improves quality of life.
